KENYA – Jaramogi Oginga Oginga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) is set to hold an eleven-day camp to offer surgery for brain and spinal diseases.
The 11 days camp commences from February 20th to March 3rd, 2023 and it will be at Jaramogi Oginga Oginga Teaching and Referral Hospital. Screening days at the consultation clinic will be between the 6th and 17th of February.
Kisumu County and its environs have an opportunity to benefit from the Kisumu Neurosurgical camp.
For one to undergo such surgery, the only requirement is an Updated NHIF cover. This camp is an opportunity for the Kisumu Residents as well as neighbouring residents to get surgeries conducted by highly specialized medics from across the globe.
Kisumu initiative is led by Kenyans in the diaspora and friends of Kenya with a vocation in the various fields of the neurosciences, to promote, encourage and give back to the people of Kenya. It aims to make a difference by raising support in the diaspora and turn to offer clinical services.
The initiative is purposed to carry out several short-term mission trips focused on healthcare delivery and education, through partnerships with the County Government of Kisumu, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital as well as the medical industries in the diaspora.
Since the camp started about 26 operations had been done from the 40 selected and the number keeps increasing. Three theatres are being used for the operations.
Kisumu Neurosurgery Symposium
Meanwhile, the 3rd Annual Kisumu Neurosurgery Symposium, being hosted by Ohio State Medical Association (OSMA), is scheduled for February 25, 2023, in Kisumu, Kenya.
This symposium is intended to bring together neurosurgeons from all over the world to discuss the current guidelines and future of neurosurgical care.
It intends to investigate solutions to challenges of practicing neurosurgery in various parts of the world and will also discuss difficult cases.
The goal is that each attendee will expand their neuroscience knowledge base, become more familiar with current management guidelines in neurosurgery, have a forum to discuss difficult cases and be able to provide better quality care upon return to their practices.
